allergies.

so his allergies got to a point where it was so bad he couldn't sleep and had bloody noses. he woke up at least 5 times in the night because he's so congested that he can't breathe. i took him to an allergist almost a year ago and they recommended that i put him on a steroid medication for the rest of his life. what'd he think i was? an idiot? so i basically ignored his recommendation. i don't know what's triggering it but i've tried everything to remedy it. dusted, changed the sheets, air filters, nasal saline solution, humidifier, etc. nothing. so i took him to the ped and she looked at his nostrils and found that they were extremely inflamed and a bit infected. she prescribed a nasal corticosteroid, flonase and suggested we use it for a week. i read the description of the medication and it's apparently for adults. children over 4 are recommended if they use it. then there's also the the warning that it might affect the growth of children. so anyway, we used it for 5 days as recommended and he slept so well. we took him off it after 5 days and did a follow up with the doctor a week later, 2 days after he stopped and again he was beginning to show the symptoms again. she said his nostrils were slightly inflamed, not as bad as the week before and said we should used it 1 or 2 days if the symptoms got bad again. poor, baby.

on a side note, he did really well at the doctor's office. he wasn't going in for a shot but i still thought that he was going to have a meltdown. i told him over and over and promised that he wouldn't get a shot and he was really good. he even sat and tried to have a conversation with the doctor.

his stats:

height - 39.5"
weight - 36.6 lb.s

doctor says he's around the 90%. growing well. just what a mommy likes to hear.

Do you or Nathan have /had the same allergy symptoms? Wonder if that's genetic. Suffering from allergy sucks. Poor little guy. Glad he's feeling better! Lemme know if you've got time for lunch next week...sounds like you're a busy busy mommy!!
