yesterday took Connor in to get his seasonal flu vaccine. the minute we stepped in the doctor's office he wanted out. then he saw the doctor and was screaming for his life. she decided to skip checking his stats (weight, height, head circumference) and just wanted to check his temperature before administering his vaccine. it took two of us to hold him down.
we have a protocol when we give Connor vaccines. when due for his vaccines, we've at the maximum given him 2 at one time. most of time, it's one at a time. we return in a month if there are more. this ultimately means he has more unpleasant visits to the doctor's office however, we'd rather take this more cautious and conservative approach. we've even given him is mmr separately. all in all, he is up to date with his vaccines.
with the new h1n1 vaccine, we are a bit concerned with the side effects since it is a new vaccine with minimal tests done on it. the xanga mommies have been really helpful and one in particular posted these 2 articles:
healthy child, healthy world
dr. sears
our doctor, whom i can't praise enough of, recommended that we give the h1n1 first since she says there are a lot of reported cases of h1n1 in the area. she just got her shipment in yesterday. she says the seasonal flu usually peaks in around February so if i'm going to give him one first i should give him the h1n1. still skeptical we chose to give him the seasonal first. in addition, Connor doesn't go to school yet nor is he out much. we'll have a month to wait for the h1n1 if we decide to vaccinate him then and give us time to think about it. our doctor takes the popular stance on vaccinating children, however, her understanding and cooperation of our decision to take an alternate route is what makes her great.
so after Connor's flu shot yesterday, he seemed to develop a reaction. late in the evening, he developed a fever that wouldn't go away till morning. we've been feeding him motrin but the lowest it would drop to is 100. this morning he's feeling much better and is eating and playing like his normal self so hopefully he'll stay this way.
